Read all instructions carefully before you begin the activity.

Topic: Getting a Part Time job

As a prefect candidate at Westlake Girls High School, for showing your ability of giving the advice to your year12 fellow schoolmates, you had been given a chance to produce the information in writing as the script and to give a speech later on during a year12 assembly on the topic of “Getting a part time job”.

Since the new coming Chinese international students are not quite familiar with your speech in English, for gaining their votes, you are advised to write some key points of your speech script in Chinese for their reference and wait for the opportunity of International Director Mrs Pennycook arranging the suitable time for them to come together, then you can deliver your speech directly in Chinese later on.

Task:

Write your speech script on the topic of “Getting a part time job” in Chinese, to show your ability of giving the advice to the new coming year12 Chinese international to gain their votes.

Your information in the Chinese script could include:

  • The common reasons for year12 schoolers to get a part time jobs in New Zealand
  • The advantages and disadvantages of getting a part time job
  • The types of part time jobs and their common criteria for recruiting the workers
  • The possible working environments the workers could possibly face
  • The advice for spending/saving money earned
  • Giving your personal example by sharing your experience or your plan
(You could integrate this part into the previous points)

Conditions:

  • You are required to write a minimum of 180 words in Chinese
  • You will have two periods to draft and complete your work. In the first period, you should start by planning your text and prepare a first draft. Then in the second period, you should rework your draft and produce the completed booklet.
  • You will work independently under the supervision of the teacher who will not give you any direct assistance.
  • You will hand in what you have done after the first period and the teacher will keep this securely and return it to you for the second session. You may use only those resources indicated by the teacher and may not bring any new material into the classroom in the second session. What you write must be your own work.
Write a text in Chinese. For Achievement, you should write at least 180 characters or 150 Chinese characters with 30 pinyin words; Achievement with Merit or Excellence may require more characters but the quality of your writing is more important than the length.

You will be rewarded for:
developing ideas relevant to the task
using a wide variety of vocabulary and structures, including some from Curriculum Level 7
        using language accurately.
